InfiniteMPG and Friends on PBS

WEDU, the PBS affiliate in Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL, just ran a seven-minute feature on geocaching that featured Scott Veix (InfiniteMPG) and a group of fellow geo-enthusiasts. Scott contributed tons of stories and photos to The Joy of Geocaching.

“It’s not a perfect science,” Scott tells Jack Perkins, host of “A Gulf Coast Journal. “Your GPS will tell you one second [the cache] is over here and the next second it’s 150 feet away.” Amen, Scott. Geosense is part of the magic.

“Geocaching is providng to be more than a game. It’s about community,” sums up Perkins. ” It’s a game that puts people in touch with nature and in touch with fun. Not a bad way to pass time on a peaceful morning.”

Treetop Adventure in NH

If you’re ever in the White Mountain region of New Hampshire, sign up for the Canopy Tour at Bretton Woods ski area. We took a break from geocaching to zip through the treetops for a few hours and it was a memorable experience indeed. ‘We can’t recommend it highly enough. Here are some videos of the experience.

We pulled out the old Flip Cam at GeoWoodstock VII to collect interesting stories, tips and reflections about why people love geocaching. Here’s one.

Trekly & Psychly (Casey and Bethy) were already engaged but Psychly wanted to do something special to demonstrate her love before their July 11 wedding. Since the couple has some 900 finds between them, a cache proposal seemed like the obvious choice. Hear their story. (1:48)

Dragonflys of Halifax, Nova Scotia has an awesome caching vest. His repurposed fisherman’s garb has places for pens, trackables, gloves, a knife, a flashlight, and just about everything else a cacher would need in the field. Best feature: the amazing extending caching mirror. In this short video, Dragonflys gives us a tour of his chest. (2:26)
