Meet Paul & Dana

Paul & Dana GillinWe’re Paul and Dana Gillin and we enjoy geocaching. When we went looking for a book to help us become better geocachers, we were surprised to find that no new how-to titles had been published in more than four years. That’s why we’re writing The Joy of Geocaching.

We aren’t veteran geocachers, but we are a professional writer (Paul) and editor (Dana). Paul’s been in publishing for 25 years and is the author of two books about social media: The New Influencers and Secrets of Social Media Marketing. If you’re interested, here’s more about Paul.

Dana has been a technology editor for six years, most recently at TechTarget. She’s also a house rabbit enthusiast, and her BunnyBlab blog attracts hundreds of other bunny lovers each month.

We don’t pretend to know all the ins and outs of this fascinating game, but we’re pretty good at finding out information. So to write The Joy of Geocaching, we interviewed scores of the most successful and enthusiastic cachers as well as geocache owners, extreme cachers, community organizers, educators and even businesspeople who use caching to promote their companies and destinations. We accompanied people on power-caching expeditions and visited with local groups. We started this project with 100 finds to our credit and added 400 more along the way. We spoke to people who just love caching and who wanted to share their best secrets.

The Joy of Geocaching will be like no other book on this topic because its tips and stories will come from people like you. Our job is to tap in to the vast experience of the community, organize it and present it in a manner that novice and intermediate geocachers can enjoy. Our publisher, Quill Driver Books, expects to release the book in the spring of 2010.

So please contact us if you’ve got good stories and tips to share. We’ll continue to update the stories on this website.
