Tip of the Day 8/13:Where would you place the cache?

In our second Find It Friday tip,we’d like to give you a clue about what to do when you get to Ground Zero (GZ,or the spot that your GPSr’s coordinates exactly match the coordinates of the cache listing).

After you’ve looked everywhere you can, think “Where would I put this cache?”

Even if you’re not an experienced geocache hider, you probably have some pretty good ideas where you’d put a cache in any scene. After looking for out-of-place piles of sticks and rocks,go to the places you think would make good hiding places.

The day you became a geocacher, you gained a sixth sense called geosense. It tells you where caches are. It’s handy to cultivate, and the only way to strengthen your sense is really to find lots of geocaches!

Excellent idea, this Tip of the Day! That geosense you mention in this tip is nurtured by wisdom from other cachers as much as (or more than) experience or equipment knowledge. If you have equipment and knowledge, but no geo-friends,look for events in your area and MAKE SOME! :)

Very well spoken Candy. One of the best ways I learned was with other cachers around. Besides, some of the nicest and best people we have ever met are also cachers. They serve as a great “lifeline”if you yourself get stumped while looking and need a little bit of a clue/hint. Now with over 100 hides, that Geosense stays engaged pretty regularly no matter where we go. I can be driving, wife will say “Hey,that would be a great spot for a cache”,and thats where another cache is planted.

  • “Hey,that would be a great spot for a cache.”LOL! That’s exactly what I tell Dana all the time! I do believe that geo-sense improves with age. We’ve had the chance to cache with some members of the Austin crew who have more than 10,000 finds. It is almost eerie to see how quickly they zero in on the target.
