One Million One and Counting!

That’s how many books we hope to sell! But that’s ALSO how many active geocaches there are in the world, according to Geocaching.com’s home page today. So congratulations to an amazing milestone to all our geocaching friends out there. Geocaching (and Groundspeak, their parent company) also celebrates their 10th anniversary this year,so hitting both milestones in the same year is quite impressive.

Our greyhound,Jacoby, has a geocaching account and just placed his first cache not too far from our house, along his usual morning walk route. That got approved yesterday,so his first cache was probably among the last of the 6-digit caches. Congrats to whomever got that millionth cache listed! If you know whom the owner of that cache is,please comment and let us know!

Saw the book at at Silent Auction in San Angelo at the TX Challenge 08 and bid well on it…but not well enough. So my caching buddy (and now my wife!) Entwined55 bought it for me as soon as we got home from Amazon.com. Sat down to read and was grabbed right from the first sentence. Then I got to Chapter 1 and WOW…my name was there! Sure didn’t expect that! However, putting aside the fuzzy factor,I read the book cover to cover and made all sorts of notes and underlined lots of little hints and populated my bucket list with a few cache names. I have read several geocaching blogs, web entries, books, mags (defunct now),just about anything on the subject that I can find and this one is TOP NOTCH! Folks, this book is a real winning compilation of goodies and well organized. It is excellent for both beginner and “professional”and is a joy to read through. If there is a sequel,I want it and I want it yesterday! Thanks for a well written and entertaining source of information and fun! Bring on the next one!

  • Thanks for a great story. You made our day! I remember our conversation down in Austin. I scratched out a note on a placemat and came back to it months later. The problem was that I didn’t get the spelling of your GC handle right, and since Geocaching.com’s search is so terrible,it took me a while to figure it out. Nevertheless,I did. I probably should have sent you a note telling you that we planned to use the story, but it was so late in the process I ran out of time. Glad you enjoyed it and delighted to hear about your geo-romance!
